Mission Statement
Vision: The Alaska Peace Center works for peace, justice and sustainability – individually, in our community and globally – with a commitment to nonviolent conflict resolution.
Values/Strategies: We facilitate fellowship, community and mutual support for those working for peace, justice and sustainability by providing a welcoming common ground for meetings.
We contribute to the understanding of the basis for peace, justice and sustainability through shared inquiry and exploration, and by networking with other organizations.
We increase public awareness and appreciation of peace, justice and sustainability through presentations, performances, exhibits and discussion on local, national and global issues.
We serve individuals and families seeking more peaceful, just and sustainable ways of living by providing sound information and training.
We teach and promote a culture of peace by drawing from examples of the work and thought of past and present peacemakers.

Alaska Peace Center

Last year my students and I created a Peace Pole as part of a nationwide program. Only one group of students in each state was selected to create a Peace Pole. Anchorage Montessori School was chosen to represent Alaska. To create a continuing awareness of world peace recipients are asked to display their Peace Pole in a prominent place on International Peace Day-September 21, 2014. The pole is 6′ high with 4, 4″ sides on a wooden base.The words “May Peace Prevail on Earth” are written on each side in English, Inupiaq, Athabascan and Yupik, along with ceramic tiles portraying the flora and fauna of Alaska. Peace Poles are a simple, constant reminder of peace-nothing more, nothing less.
Is there a group in Anchorage? We will be displaying our Peace Pole at the Loussac Library on September 20th and hopefully at the town square (our application is being reviewed) on September 21. I would love to connect with others on this special day.

I have heard nothing from anybody in Anchorage. We did get our special events permit to be at the PAC (outside) on September 21. If you know anyone I could connect with I would appreciate it.
