A group of Alaskans gathered for a rally in support of the United Nations’ current effort to institute a Treaty outlawing nuclear weapons. Heather Koponen’s sign saying “Don’t Bank On The Bomb” elicited the angst of the local Wells Fargo Bank’s management. An official came out and told her that she couldn’t use the public sidewalk to protest. The bank official told her that she was upsetting their clients.

Come show that it is time to support the current NUCLEAR BAN TREATY NEGOTIATIONS.
After campaigning from civil society, governments are now in negotiations at the United Nations on “a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination”. This new international agreement will place nuclear weapons on the same legal footing as other weapons of mass destruction, which have long been outlawed.
The negotiations are taking place at UN headquarters in New York from 27 to 31 March and from 15 June to 7 July 2017, with the participation of governments, international organizations and civil society representatives.
The U.S.”leaders” are not taking an active part, but we can let the world know that the people support ending nuclear arms race, testing and devastation.

5th Annual Peace Feast
Save the Date!—5th Annual Peace Feast to be held Saturday, June 4, noon to 2:00 at the Pioneer Park Wilderness Pavilion
Come help us celebrate at the Wilderness Pavilion (the one closest to the river). Dick Farris will provide his famous barbecued ribs and chicken. Please bring a dish to share and eating utensils if possible. This is a fun time to relax, enjoy each other’s company, and share ideas and interests. There will be short informal presentations by various groups and individuals on their activities to advance peace, justice and sustainability in the Fairbanks area.
