Alaska Peace Center Fair booth moved

The Alaska Peace Center does indeed have a booth inside the Borealis Pavilion for the duration of the 2026 Tanana Valley State Fair
July 31-August 9, as we have had for the past 20 years !

New staff at the Fair somehow got rid of spaces for a row of 4 booths, including ours! So for this year we are set up one aisle over, toward the parking lot. We are still at the same end, but just further away from the big door. You can see our banner and booth from that door.

The booth has some new features this year! Come see the world map, and the cheerily-lit peace sign centered by the peace raven; Take part in the Bean Poll and find how your priorities for how your taxes get spent compare with how they actually are spent; Pick up a free copy of our Newsletter, literature; Donate for a T-shirt, hat, or fan, buttons, bumper stickers; Get an updated KWRK-LP 101.7FM/kwrk.org schedule; Discuss your ideas about Peace, Justice, and Sustainability!

Parking fees this year! “Parking is $3 Thursday through Saturday. You can park at Randy Smith* and take the shuttle to avoid fees. Parking at the Fair is free Sunday – Wednesday.”
*Randy Smith Middle School: on the west side of Danby Rd that connects the Johansen Expressway and College Rd near Creamer’s Field.
(I do recommend the “shuttle”: Yellow school buses. Frequent, Free; Less hassle, less time finding parking and walking, since you can get off right by the Blue Gate, yards from the Alaska Peace Center booth!)

Veterans For Peace ACTION ALERT

Dear Friend of VFP, 150 veterans and military members occupy the capital rotunda to demand Congress end the war on Iran.

For nearly two months, the Trump administration has driven an illegal, catastrophic war on Iran which has murdered thousands of Iranians, destroyed critical civilian infrastructure, and threatened total annihilation of Iran’s civilization. They have sent thousands of our brothers, sisters, and family members to fight and die for the sake of American domination of Iran and the region. It is time for congress to end this war. The cost is too high.

The billions of dollars being spent on this war could be spent on healthcare and housing. It could be used to keep veterans and civilians off the streets. It could ensure that our children have the best possible education. Instead, Trump, Hegseth, Rubio and this neocon administration use our tax dollars to destroy lives across the globe. Americans do not benefit from this war, and Americans do not support this war. If our administration won’t do anything about it, Veterans For Peace, Military Families Speak Out and About Face veterans will.

Global Day of Action in Solidarity with Venezuela: January 17

No War, No Overthrow, No Coup, No Sanctions!

We are calling for an end to U.S. hostility toward Venezuela, including sanctions, threats, & war. 

  • End all war and hostilities toward Venezuela.
  • Cut off the funding that allows such crimes.
  • Free Venezuela’s kidnapped president.
  • Bring all U.S. troops and equipment back to the United States from Venezuela and vicinity.
  • Cancel the brutal economic sanctions, naval blockade, and no-fly-zone.
  • Renounce overthrows and the Monroe Doctrine.
  • Impeach, convict, and remove President Trump from office.
  • The United Nations Charter makes it a crime to threaten war and a crime to wage war except in defense or by UN authorization, neither of which is the case, and neither of which has even been alleged
  • President Donald Trump’s claims about the illegal drug trade regarding both Venezuela and approximately 100 people thus far killed in boats with U.S. missiles from drones are without evidence and widely considered not even plausible
  • Sanctions illegally imposed on Venezuela by the United States, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths, have now been exacerbated by acts of war including the declaration of a no-fly zone and of a naval blockade
  • Even United States Army Judge Advocates General have denounced Trump’s actions as “patently illegal”
  • In a recent poll, 63% of people in the United States oppose military action in Venezuela

For Your Calendar: Alaska Peace Center’s Tanana Valley State Fair Booth, in 1 month

Friday, July 25 through Sunday, August 3, the Alaska Peace Center will have a booth at the Fair, as we have for many years! We once again need people to staff the booth and meet the public.

This is an opportunity to be Present for Peace at the biggest social gathering in interior Alaska. It is a remarkable opening to interact and gain insight into other people’s understanding of world affairs, deepen our own understanding of what we mean by “Peace”, and to exercise our ability to be people of Peace. Help with the interactive Bean Poll.

We need at least one person per shift. The Peace Center will provide a ticket to the Fair for the day you volunteer. Send an email to info@alaskapeace.org, Subject: Fair Booth. Volunteer for one, two, or three shifts, meet people, ask folks their opinions and experiences on current and historic issues. Be amazed!

Dates: Friday July 25 – Sunday August 3                  Shifts: noon-3pm; 3-6pm; 6-10pm

A State-Wide In-Person And On-Line Discussion of

The future of the Arctic amidst dramatic changes from global warming, nuclear weapons, indigenous rights in a world of growing competition favoring armed, rather than diplomatic resolutions.

Sponsored by Juneau’s Veterans for Peace and World Affairs Council, Point Hope Congress, and Alaska Peace Center. The Pt. Hope Project is an ongoing effort of nuclear Disarmament honoring the courage and wisdom of Pt. Hope Elders to stop the total destruction of the Arctic in “Operation Chariot”, the 1960s plan to use nuclear weapons to prove their value for “peaceful purposes”.
